Kick a man when he is down by Mark Lowe
Monday, September 22, 2008 at 07:51AM I find myself wondering, "Why are Christians queuing up to kick a man when he is down and take pot shots at those who stand with him?"
I find myself wondering whether this reflects a wrong view of God.
· The God who knows when we are going to fall and fail yet He still invests in us, trusts us, gives us a chance.
· The God who chose an unpunished murderer to lead the Israelites out of slavery.
· The God who chose David (Man after His own heart) knowing that he would become a murdering wife stealer.
· The God who made Adam and Eve only for them to bring pain, suffering and damnation on millions (yet we so easily point the finger at parents in the faith for not doing it right!)
· Jesus who chose Judas amongst his disciples, surely he should have noticed his money issues! Held him to account more!
There is more to being a Father than we would perhaps like- does it mean that we share in some of the humiliations that our spiritual children bring on us and still stand with them? - They are our children after all. Does it mean that we choose to take riskes, believe the best, trust, work with issues and personality traits in the full knowledge that it may all blow up in our face! Could this in fact be the God way? Are we prepared for our reputaions to be at risk rather than only betting on sure things?!
